A Personal Message:

It has been my privilege to be given this opportunity to work with all of you in serving the blind in Singapore. On behalf of my colleagues, I write this note with deep appreciation and hope: appreciative towards one and all for the continual encouragement and unconditional support; hopeful upon witnessing the slow but positive results of some of our programs.

True Stories:

Tales from the dark side of two couples who never saw light and may never see if we don't care for them. The Independent Society of the Blind (Singapore) does its share to help individuals and families who are partially or fully blind.

Interview:

Living in a cosmopolitan society like Singapore, education is a highly valued asset. It is often the first thing employers inquire when one goes for a job interview. You could say that education is the key to a bright and successful career.

Blind Buzz:

These days, when you enter a lift of a new or upgraded building, you will most probably notice different arrangements of embossed dots pasted on the buttons. Indeed, such protruded dots, termed "Braille", remain a significant substitute for pen-and-paper writing for blind people around the world for more than one and a half-century.

Testimony:

At the age of seven, I enrolled in Maha Bodhi Primary School, one of the few schools renown for its strong Chinese culture. My formal Chinese lessons began and to my delight, those few periods per week proved to be interesting and fun.

On The Trail:

To popular dominant discourse, due to the absence of sight, a blind person has to lead a life, which is seriously circumvented in various aspects and in many ways. This may be true, but only to a very small extent.

Paralympics Queen:

Zaimoonisah Yussoff was Singapore's only female representative at the recent Sydney 2000 Paralympics. Many may not be aware that the 35-year-old was among 4,000 athletes from 128 nations who competed from Oct 18 to Oct 29 in what is known as the Olympics for the disabled.

Playtime:

Each year, the International White Cane Day is celebrated worldwide on 15th October. It's a day dedicated to blind people all over the world. At the Independent Society of the Blind (Singapore), we usually celebrate this day with fun, food and testimonies from members.

Gallery:

At the age of 53, Chng Seok Tin has grown to become widely regarded as one of Singapore's pre-eminent artists. She is the Republic's master print-maker who has her work exhibited all over the world.

Success Story:

It is a great pleasure and honor to be given this chance to share my experiences of my past to my present occupation, a research scholar in the Department of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Rising Star:

To many, the job as an insurance agent is never their priority career. Its commission-based nature scares away souls. The hard work, rejections, long hours and late hours are not what many wish to undergo.
